The Classic4 is a comprehensive reference loudspeaker system. This 2, 3 or 4-piece system is designed for the highest acoustic coherency required by revealing "state of the art" electronics and program sources. Each channel has a full range enclosure, and an optional subwoofer (either a AC12 or an Iso212).
The Enclosure
The full range enclosure is a 20.5 x 10 x 8.5 (D) 4-way rear vented oak or walnut enclosure. The Classic4 uses the Pres "soundfield" design, alligned bass, mid and hi drivers on the front baffle, with a .75" "soundfield" tweeter on the top surface. The Classic4 sits on a plexiglass platform with 4 removable steel tiptoes, ensuring no mechanical transfer from sub to full range speaker.The platform can rest on the AC12 powered subwoofer or on the Classic4 speaker stand if used with the Iso212, or another (or no) subwoofer.
The Drivers
The PRES Classic4 tweeter is a 28mm (1.1") Morel Supreme dome, with a ferro fluid damped and vented magnet system. This ensures a low resonant frequency with minimal resonance magnification and maximum driver control. This stability and control results in highly accurate, extended response with extraordinary power handling capacity and dynamic range.
The all-important midrange has a similarly damped and vented 77mm (3") soft dome Dynaudio D52AF. It has a low resonant frequency (350hz) with high power handling capacity (200w nominal, 1000w transient) and 91db/1 watt efficiency. These properties allow great dynamic range, essential for life-like linear reproduction.
The bass driver in the Classic4 I is 6.5" polymer/oxide cone Vifa M18WO-09-08, cast frame, long throw, vented magnet woofer. It is characterized by quick rise time, high power handling, and linear response.
Crossover Networks
The PRES Classic4 uses 14g I-core inductors, Solen polypropylene capacitors and precision wire wound resistors in it's networks. We have developed, over time, optimal crossover points and slopes, resonance dampening and impedance equalization techinques, to produce the most linear and dynamic speaker we can. The Classic4 employs 3rd order Butterworth network filters.
